I’m happy to announce that I’ve been asked to do a live performance as part of Conflux Festival, NY.  West-coast based art collective, Thank Tank, has asked me to perform as part of what they’re calling “The Centennial Lay State of Our Union” which aims to have artists, writers, performers, and musicians, interpret and comment on the political state of the world around them using the idea of speech, public forums, and activism as a platform for discussion and critique.

I will be engaging the public in a live sound performance and hope to see you there.

09.20.2009 I will be doing a live performance piece for Thank Tank as part of the annual Conflux Festival, 2009.
* “CONFLUX is the art and technology festival for the creative exploration of urban public space, produced by Glowlab in New York since 2003.”

My performance will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2009 @ 1:30pm, southeast corner of Washington Square Park.

Thank Tank is participating in Conflux Festival in New York this year, with the event “Centennial Lay State of Our Union”, which  is a performative ceremony that playfully employs classic motifs of public speaking to propose 100-year no-budget social initiatives to be carried out by an extended network of creative practitioners and documented online.

Commencing on Saturday 9/20 at Washington Square Park, CLSU participants and passerby will receive pamphlets containing event locations where invited artists with present state of the union addresses in varied performative manners. This opening ceremony will also unveil the time capsule container.”

For schedule of the event and locations of the speeches please check out Thank Tank’s website: http://www.thanktankannual.net/

Conflux is the annual New York festival for contemporary psychogeography, the investigation of everyday urban life through emerging artistic, technological and social practice. At Conflux, visual and sound artists, writers, urban adventurers and the public gather for four days to explore their urban environment.”

“People from a wide variety of backgrounds and cultures come together at the festival to re-imagine the city as a playground, a space for positive change and an opportunity for civic engagement. The Village Voice describes Conflux as a “network of maverick artists and unorthodox urban investigators… making fresh, if underground, contributions to pedestrian life in New York City, and upping the ante on today’s fight for the soul of high-density metropolises.”

MeKaniKdolls will be performing a live DJ/sound set at the opening of the exhibition “implausible structures”, curated by Suzanne Stroebe. The exhibition features the work of artists David Schafer, Rebecca Curry, Dan Carlson, Jana Flynn, and Angela Basile.

Created out of a response to recent trends and changes in the art market and the struggling gallery scene, Castlebraid Real Estate has teamed up with the Williamsburg Gallery Association to create a month-long, changing exhibition space for local artists, galleries, organizations, musicians, and more. Artist and galleries will take over multiple floors of a recently constructed building for an exciting, DIY, art fair of sorts.

The opening is Saturday, September 12 from 4pm-midnight, with openings, performances, and MeKaniKdolls’ DJ set beginning at 8pm. We’ll be playing a selection of original tracks (unreleased and released), as well as creating an eclectic, ambient, industrial soundscape to accompany the installed artworks.
